Elite Overview
From the editors of Elite Meetings
Stretching from the seawalls of the Intracoastal Waterway to the sandy beaches of the Atlantic Ocean, The Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa enjoys a convenient location between Fort Lauderdale and Miami in Hollywood, Florida. The AA Four Diamond Award–winning beachfront resort now encompasses the best of all worlds since adding the full Diplomat Golf Resort & Spa experience to its offerings. All 1,058 guest rooms and suites will now feature Westin signature amenities, from its Heavenly products to White Tea scents.
Groups convene in the resort's Convention Center, measuring 200,000 square feet. Here, the focal point is the 50,000-square-foot Great Hall and its many prefunction areas. Also part of the resort's meeting facilities, four additional ballrooms and 39 breakout rooms comfortably accommodate groups of 8 to 8,000. In addition to wireless Internet connectivity, business travelers have access to the latest in technology, such as live video projection, Janus plasma display screens and reader boards, corporate Web hosting service, along with virtual networking between group and home corporate offices.
Time off can be spent exploring all that the resort has to offer, both at the beach and golf locations. Guests can sign up for deep-sea fishing at Diplomat Landing, lounge on the sandy beach, or cool off in the infinity-edge pool—complete with two waterfalls flowing into a 240-foot lagoon pool below. They can tee off on the par-72 golf course managed by Troon Golf, perfect their skills at the comprehensive tennis center, or spend a day at the full-service European-style spa. A complimentary shuttle running between the two sites makes doing it all a breeze.
Planner Reviews
From our planner community
Overall Rating: 10.0/10
This is a first rate hotel and my guests couldn't stop raving about it. The facility is well maintained, the views are breathtaking, and the customer service is outstanding. My attendees all felt welcomed from the moment they arrived at check-in and on through the final night's banquet. I heard lots of comments that this was the best meeting site ever. The hotel staff made every guest feel special. As a planner, what else could you ask for? Excellent service means happier attendees, a successful meeting planner, and good ratings for management. A win-win for all.

Overall Rating: 10.0/10
I have had the pleasure of using the Westin Diplomat for past programs and I am never disappointed. In fact, each event just gets better and better. The hotel doesn't rest on its past success, instead it really strives to reach a higher level of excellence with each event. The hotel even has its own ground transportation group (USA Transportation) on site and their service and execution is as flawless as what I have come to expect from the hotel. In every respect, from every possible perspective, this hotel will go above and beyond your expectations and your guests will truly have an experience that they will remember as one of the best meetings ever attended.

Beautiful property located on the beach in Hollywood, FL. Excellent service. Be aware that attendees will be coming in from Miami and Ft. Lauderdale airports which may increase your transportation cost (dual operations at each airport). Attendees enjoyed their stay as the architecture of the property is very impressive.

As a planner, I was thrilled to have plenty of meeting space available for my use for our large meetings and meal events. I found the Convention Services staff to be very efficient and professional.

THE WESTIN DIPLOMAT RESORT & SPA WINS GOLD KEY AWARD FOR THE FIFTH YEAR HONORED BY MEETINGS & CONVENTIONS MAGAZINE
Posted September 8, 2010
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HOLLYWOOD, FL, (AUGUST 31, 2010) - Meeting & Conventions magazine recently announced the winners of its prestigious Gold Key Award for 2010. The Westin Diplomat has been honored with this award five times. For over 30 years this annual award has been bestowed upon the world's finest meeting properties.
All winners of this award of excellence were nominated and selected by the readers of M&C, who based their votes on the overall professionalism and quality of the property. This year, the readers honored 157 domestic and international hotels and resorts as Gold Key winners. Meeting planners selected their winning properties based on strict industry criteria including: staff attitude; quality of meeting rooms; quality of guest services; food and beverage service; proficiency of handling reservations; availability of technical/support equipment and range of recreational facilities.
"The dedication to quality has always been a trademark of M&C's readers who represent the highest level of meeting and incentive professionals. The 2010 Gold Key winners have met these tough standards by providing outstanding service, said Kirk Lewis, Meetings & Conventions Group Publisher. "The entire M&C staff commends the properties that have demonstrated the qualities to earn the Gold Key distinction." Winning hotels and resorts will also be featured in Meetings & Conventions' Gold Awards issue published this November.

Recycle The Old & In With The GREEN
Posted November 10, 2008
HOLLYWOOD, FL (June 16, 2008) " When you think of the beachfront Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa, 3555 S. Ocean Dr., Hollywood, FL, shades of green palms trees, green Bermuda grass covering the championship golf course, the blue-green waves of the Atlantic Ocean or even thoughts of your favorite green swimsuit might come to mind. However, you can now start thinking green as in the environment.
The Westin Diplomat Resort has just begun an eight month refurbishment of much of its public spaces, back-of-the-house areas and all 998 guestrooms. While planning the current refurbishment, green has been a constant point of reference, starting with material removal through replacement, explains Sharon Zamojski, architect/capital projects manager for The Westin Diplomat. It has taken nearly 24 months of research, designing and scheduling to orchestrate the overall process. Most of the removed furniture will be sent to a wholesale furniture liquidator where it will receive a second life. Over 1,150 mattress sets of varying sizes and 700 sleeper sofas are being donated to Operation Green Leaves, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving Haitis standard of living. However, all other materials are being
recycled:
30,000-sq. yards of carpet " cut into 4-ft strips and sent to a carpet mill for post consumer use
Over 200,000 lbs of glass from guestroom shower and bathroom doors
734 pieces of aluminum balcony furniture
Guestrooms are being refurbished by floor, with a guestroom floor above and below as buffers. Completed rooms will feature: 100% recyclable carpeting, Herman Miller Aeron desk chair made of 62% recycled material, LED lighting and upgraded aluminum balcony furniture. These items, along with towels and bed linens, will all be recycled at the end of
their useful life.
Already extremely successful with an energy saving best practices in place, The Westin Diplomat has drop its monthly electric bill by 7.8%, an estimated $175,000 in monthly savings just by turning off lights, copiers and computers, raising the air-conditioners in unoccupied rooms and in public spaces, as well as implementing several environmental sustainability practices. It is our responsibility and our commitment to be as environmentally responsible as possible, states Mark Kukulski, general manager. Additionally, The Westin is partnering with Waste Management in implementing a pilot, single stream recycling program. This program will entail a complete back-of-house waste collection of all cardboard, glass, aluminum and plastic, essentially most recyclable waste materials will be placed into
special containers provided by Waste Management.
For a visual of the 4 to 5 foot piles materials awaiting recycle pick up and a tour of the new guestrooms and back of the house initiatives, please contact Michelle Shulman, director of public relations at 954-602-8603
